Phnom Penh, May 15 2024 – AIA (Cambodia) Life Insurance Plc’s (“AIA Cambodia”) Corporate Cup 2024 men’s champions returned home in high spirits from London after enjoying a memorable, eye-opening experience at the AIA Championship 2024.

The inaugural football tournament for the AIA Group’s corporate solutions clients saw the Sathapana Bank team winning a once-in-a-lifetime prize that included playing at the Group principal global partner Tottenham Hotspur’s training complex in London.

During their 4 day/4 night trip sponsored by the Kingdom’s leading life insurer, they also watched Spurs in action against Burnley in an English Premier League match and took in a leisurely tour of the city.

Sathapana Bank competed against 10 other winners from AIA markets comprising Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and China. They won two group matches and drew one before exiting the competition as among the top five teams. The AIA Championship 2024 men’s trophy eventually went to Singapore while New Zealand took home the women’s.

Sreng Leangsor, who captained Sathapana Bank, said: “Travelling to a country that none of us thought of visiting before was fabulous, and I thank AIA Cambodia for rewarding us with the opportunity to be the first team from Cambodia to compete against other AIA markets,” he said, adding that his team would strive to do better in the next edition of the AIA Championship 2024 if given an opportunity.

“AIA Cambodia’s inclusive organization of our London trip also enabled us to explore the city and its iconic tourist spots, which was beyond anything money could buy and truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Team manager Sao Sovannrath said: “This was a big event but also a fun, friendly one that enabled us to bond with the other teams. I am genuinely grateful to AIA Cambodia for completely sponsoring the entire trip and especially for giving us the chance to catch the Spurs and Burnley game.”

AIA Cambodia’s organization of the AIA Corporate Cup emphasizes their standing as a major health and wellness advocate. It moves their scope from a life and health insurance provider to one of a corporate partner who cares for clients’ physical, mental, social and financial wellbeing, as exemplified by its proposition of Live Well, Think Well, Plan Well, Feel Well.

These four pillars are part of the insurer’s WorkWell with AIA program, launched early this year to help corporate clients increase employee health and wellbeing. It further links to AIA Cambodia’s ‘One Life, One Health’ campaign that encourages Cambodians to better enjoy life by focusing on overall wellness.

The competition also aligns with AIA Cambodia’s purpose of helping Cambodians, which includes corporate organizations, live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives, and keeps to the AIA Group’s AIA One Billion initiative to do the same for one billion people in Asia by 2030.

Open to men and women, the AIA Corporate Cup saw the participation of 40 teams, including CIA First Cambodia, Heineken Cambodia, DGB Bank, Amret Microfinance Institute, RMA Cambodia Group, ISI Group, KPMG and Foodpanda.

Matches were held from December 2023 to March this year, with men’s teams from Sathapana Bank, Heineken, CIA First Cambodia and DGB Bank qualifying for the semifinals.

More than just unique prizes, however, is AIA Cambodia’s aim to use football to maintain and enhance the mental and physical wellbeing of our corporate clientsto ensure all participating teams have benefitted not only from a health and wellness viewpoint, but also from building strong, long-lasting and impactful social and business ties.”
