AIA (Cambodia) Life Insurance Plc (“AIA Cambodia”) closed their definitive AIA Fit for Hope breast cancer awareness campaign, an annual event which has grown rapidly in prominence and size while simultaneously thrusting the disease into the spotlight and sharing pertinent information and knowledge on a nationwide scale.
AIA Fit for Hope, which aligns with the insurer’s purpose to help Cambodians lead Healthier, Longer, Better Lives, kicked off in 2017, the same year AIA Cambodia commenced business. Their now-flagship movement continued to develop in terms of activities and participants and in 2022, saw its efforts gain recognition from the Royal Government when it was endorsed by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MoWA).
Organized by one of the Kingdom’s leading life and health insurers, AIA Fit for Hope is today, the nation’s largest, most well-known event of its kind. AIA Cambodia will continue to amplify its scope annually, as breast cancer remains the leading cancer for Cambodian women of all ages and the number one noncommunicable disease among women.
The event continues to receive undivided support from the Royal Government and other bodies. AIA Fit for Hope 2024 was the third consecutive edition to be endorsed by MoWA, and its launch was presided over by Cambodia’s First Lady, H.E. Dr. PICH Chanmony HunManet.
The two-month long event offered free breast screenings in the capital and key provinces supported by leading Phnom Penh health institution Intercare Hospital. AIA Fit for Hope, which provides for both on-ground and online activities, also offered a digital platform to increase awareness and share in-depth information on the disease.
The screenings saw 5,129 women took up breast cancer screenings, with 1,099 or 21% of them detected with breast masses.
AIA Fit for Hope additionally featured a three-day Health Expo and the second AIA Pink Run, a collaboration with the Cambodia Marathon Committee that encourages the public to act as a catalyst to escalate awareness on a national level. This year’s AIA Pink Run, held in conjunction with International Breast Cancer Awareness Month, hosted more than 4,000 participants who pledged to keep to the 2024 theme of ‘Raise your flag’ by building a stronger sense of community and fighting breast cancer together.
The campaign underlines AIA Cambodia’s purpose to help Cambodians lead Healthier, Longer, Better Lives and aligns with the AIA Group’s AIA One Billion program to do the same for one billion people in Asia by 2030.
It also keeps to AIA Cambodia’s “One Life, One Health (OLOH)” drive to encourage Cambodians to better enjoy life by focusing on their wellbeing. Themed “Cherish it, Protect it”, OLOH underlines the insurer’s conviction that health impacts all aspects of life and is a defining factor in determining its quality.
The AIA Pink Run, which marked the conclusion of AIA Fit for Hope 2024, was attended by H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Tourism and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), AIA Cambodia Chief Executive Officer Jane Tay, as well as management and staff from AIA Cambodia, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MoWA), and the Cambodian Management Committee (CMC) and staff, AIA Cambodia Life Planners, stakeholders, business partners and guests.
Ministry of Women’s Affair’s Minister H.E. Kithik Bandeth Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi said: “I would like to thank AIA Cambodia, our parner hospital, and all stakeholders for initatiing this annual Fit For Hope campaign and for collaorating with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs to save lives afftexted by breast cancer. This marks the thried year that the ministry of women’s affairs has endorsed this vital breast cancer awareness campaign. I sincerely hope that this campaign will benefit the target population, particularly women and girls. Early detection and timely treatmnet offer a high chance of healing and saving lives.”
Jane Tay said: “This year’s AIA Fit for Hope saw more Cambodians than ever join hands to combat breast cancer. I thank the Royal Government, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, the Cambodia Marathon Committee, Intercare, our partners, stakeholders, and most importantly, the public, for their growing support to reassure patients, cancer survivors, healthcare providers and other relevant bodies that we are all working towards a common goal.”
She added: “While AIA Fit for Hope has been the Kingdom’s definitive breast cancer awareness campaign for eight years, we are still striving to ensure more women undergo screenings, conduct self-examinations and have enough information to recognize cancer signs and symptoms. Increased awareness and knowledge can indeed make a definite difference in reducing mortality rates and ensuring more Cambodians lead Healthier, Longer, Better Lives.”
