AIA (Cambodia) Life Insurance Plc (“AIA Cambodia”) and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MoWA) recently concluded the roll out of the first phase of their five-year Promote Health and Financial Wellbeing for Cambodian Women community education project, which empowered more than 900 participants this year with information on cancer, basic nutrition and financial inclusion.
A result of AIA Cambodia’s purpose to help Cambodians live healthier, longer, better lives, the partnership seeks to further boost women’s rights and gender equality in the health sector by providing information on cervical and breast cancer, the benefits of a healthy diet and financial literacy. This is achieved via on-ground forums, the distribution of educational materials and other relevant digital and offline activities.
Themed “Healthier Women, Stronger Kingdom”, the project between the government and the private sector benefitted women and families in four provinces - Kampong Cham, Battambang, Siem Reap and Kampot. In 2023, it will expand to more locations, with 16 forums scheduled to increase awareness and reach out to thousands others in the Kingdom.
Aside from its primary topics, the partnership aims to reduce cancer mortality rates, inculcate healthier lifestyles and fight non-communicable diseases, which affect the health and livelihoods of individuals worldwide and in Cambodia, especially women and girls.
Present at the penultimate stop of the roll-out in Siem Reap were H.E. San Arun, the Secretary of State for the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Ministry representatives. Also in attendance at all four locations were MoWA personnel, representatives from all participating provinces, AIA Cambodia management, staff and Life Planners, and members of the public. These largely comprised women eager to gain information on cancer and how a long-term family financial plan helps reduce monetary stress and worries about the future.
Mr. Andrew Loh, AIA Cambodia Chief Executive Officer said: “We have always focused on women since we commenced operations here in 2017, and want them to be champions of physical, mental and financial wellness via education and information. Our partnership with MoWA aims to reach out to women nationwide at all levels and make this a reality.”
As well as aligning with the AIA Group’s AIA One Billion initiative to help one billion people in Asia live healthier, longer, better lives by 2030, “Healthier Women, Stronger Kingdom” is also among AIA Cambodia’s many ongoing women-first initiatives. These include the Best of Me talk show on Facebook to help and inspire women and the annual Fit for Hope breast cancer awareness campaign, which empowers women to learn about the disease and take preventive measures.
“Via our activities and projects, AIA Cambodia is continuously committed to uplift Cambodian women, provide them pertinent knowledge, enable them to further contribute to the Kingdom and ultimately, help them enjoy healthier, longer, better lives.”
Moving forward, the Ministry and AIA Cambodia will continue to work closely with relevant Ministries, including the Ministry of Health and authorities such as the Central, Provincial and District Departments of Women Affairs and the District Office of Women’s Affairs.
